03/07/24 – VCTA released an economic report addressing Commercial Real Estate, Loan Delinquencies, and Office Space in Ventura County.
03/17/24 – VCTA defended Oxnard ratepayers against a dramatic 74% rate increase for trash services demanding the City of Oxnard to engage in an RFP process for the service to be more competitive.
03/19/24 – VCTA urged the County of Ventura Supervisors to act in regard to Ventura County Medical Systems financials challenges suggesting the County of Ventura write off $200M in bad debt.
03/20/24 – VCTA joined in a letter of support for SB 983 (Wahab), to facilitate and accelerate alternative fuels infrastructure throughout the state.
03/20/24 – VCTA joined in a letter to oppose SB 556 (Gonzalez), which would create unnecessary liability provisions for any owners, operators or Board members related to oil wells.
03/20/24 – VCTA joined in a letter to AB 3155 (Friedman) which is similar to SB 556.
04/08/24 – VCTA urged Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to postpone a double-digit rate increase until it can develop a fair and reasonable rate structure.
04/08/24 – VCTA raised a red flag with the Ventura County Supervisors regarding EMC Research, questioning their bias regarding tax-payer funded marketing campaigns and their motivations to research a tax-payer funded bond measure in the community.
04/25/24 – VCTA released a detailed newsletter highlighting the Ventura County Board of Supervisor’s rushed efforts to push out a $400M bond to address low-income housing.
05/13/24 – VCTA raised concerns with the Ventura Unified School District regarding its three-member Parcel Tax Oversight Committee (PTOC), which appears to lack a proper formula for oversight.
05/13/24 – VCTA raised alarm over Ventura County’s Health Care Agency’s audited financial statements and cash flow shortfalls.
05/14/24 – VCTA opposed AB 2716 (Bryan), regarding orphaned oil wells, the bill had the potential to open the state to significant legal liability under the takings clause of the U.S. Constitution.
05/14/24 – VCTA opposed AB 3233 as it would result in increased imports from foreign sources not operating under the same environmental standards and will only lead to significantly higher transportation costs and an increase in greenhouse gasses and other emissions associated with bringing that oil into the state.
05/21/24 – VCTA opposed the Ventura County’s push to pass a $400M affordable housing bond to be placed on the November 2024 ballot citing high inflation and declining enrollment. The bond measure was abandoned.
05/21/24 – VCTA released its disappointing report regarding the California State Auditor’s decision to discontinue its annual fiscal health analysis report ranking 430 California cities on their financial health.
06/04/24 – VCTA submitted a letter to the California State Lands Commission supporting Leases 735 & 3314 from CRC to CalNRG.
06/04/24 – VCTA defended the proposed Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act at the City of Santa Paula’s City Council.
06/04/24 – VCTA pressed Ventura County Medical System to recognize their growing debt burden and to take decisive actions to address the issue during their budget proposals.
06/18/24 – VCTA confronted Oxnard City Council and the Oxnard City Manager over a decision to pay Oxnard Street Sweepers $200,00 per year based on AB 1886 (Cooper), which died on the State Senate floor on August 31st, of 2023.
06/18/24 – VCTA opposed Ventura County Community College Districts efforts to place an $820M school bond on the November 2024 ballot. The bond measure was defeated.

07/02/24 – VCTA again urged the City of Oxnard to provide a solution for the $2M street sweeper decision that resulted in Street Sweepers being paid $200K in prevailing wages.

08/05/24 – VTA opposed SB 1304 (Limon) which added unnecessary and duplicative requirements that must be met to obtain approval of an aquifer exemption under California and federal law.
08/07/24 – VCTA opposed AB 1866 (Hart) which would mandate the premature closing of idle oil wells.
08/14/24 – VCTA released their report on the $200K Street Sweepers, accusing Oxnard City officials of mismanagement.
08/26/24 – VCTA joined a floor alert to vote no on SBX1-2 (Skinner) which would risk unnecessary gas price spikes in California.
08/26/24 – VCTA opposed AB 3259 (Lori Wilson), deeming it unconstitutional as it violates Article IV, Section 16 of the California Constitution, which mandates uniform operation of general laws.
08/28/24 – VCTA released their 2024 Voter Guide
09/03/24 – VCTA opposed the Ventura County’s attempt to replace ambulance service, currently run by a contractor (AMR), to replace them with Ventura County Fire, citing pensions, efficiency, and an unnecessary burden on taxpayers.
09/15/24 – VCTA opposed Ventura County Community College Districts push for a Community Workforce Agreement (CWA) which is really a Project Labor Agreement as it would close work options to 86% of our local blue-collar workforce and would not be able to guarantee local hire.
10/08/24 – VCTA released a report exposing the Ventura Unified School District’s use of Measure E School Bond money to divert $14M in solar panel rebates to their general fund. This is ongoing.
10/15/24 – VCTA released an information report on the complexities of Project Labor Agreements in Ventura County.
10/23/24 – VCTA distributed NO on PROP 5 signs to our members and the community.
